Elderly mother, dead phone. Urgent help required, please.

My mother's phone line has been dead since yesterday afternoon. I was hoping it was an area fault, which would be fixed, but it isn't.

The online "Run test" button doesn't work, nor does online chat help.

I have just called 150 and (after half an hour) confirmed a fault, but the operator said she couldn't book an engineer before next Friday.

This is completely unacceptable. My mother is elderly, virtually housebound,  and the phone is her lifeline.

Can anyone here please help me?

Hopefully a member of the Forum Team might spot this and expedite an engineer.  In the meantime, how about getting her a cheapo PAYG dumb mobile phone, one with big display and large buttons and put some credit on it for her.

Thanks Dave.

I have bought her a mobile, she just doesn't adapt well to new things.

I am hoping for a PM from one of the team.

Re: Elderly mother, dead phone. Urgent help required, please.

My landline has packed up as well (0161) area.  This seems to be national problem.  Tested the line twice via testing, which stops at 99%.

Man Frustrated  Unfortunately I get lumbered with all things tech and I'm expected to fix stuff.  My sister's Freeview Tesco TV packed up last night and she can't function without it.

I give up (again).

Perhaps I shouldn't have marked Dave's post as a 'helpful answer' as this topic is now showing as "solved".

Will the team still look at, and respond to, this thread... or should I start another?

Hello Dolarhyde,

Thanks for posting.

I would certainly like to look into this for you but I'm just going to need to confirm a couple of details first so if you click on the purple envelope at the top right of the screen you will see another message from me.

Speak to you soon

Re: Elderly mother, dead phone. Urgent help required, please.

Hello MrHalfAsleep,

Thank you for letting us know about this, I have tested your line and it's showing a fault in the area so I have just raised this for you and you should be able to find any updates or estimated fix times here.

If you have any further queries please let me know.

Re: Elderly mother, dead phone. Urgent help required, please.

The service status page doesn't work with the postcode/phone number combination login.  However, I did manage to find out that there is a fault in my area (phone may not be working).  Can't say for Dolarhyde

but my landline is now working. Cheers.

Re: Elderly mother, dead phone. Urgent help required, please.

Mum is in the 02392 area, and it doesn't seem to be an area fault.

Rose is on the case now and I've responded to her PM with the details.

Thanks to all who chipped in.

Re: Elderly mother, dead phone. Urgent help required, please.

Thanks for getting back to me MrHalfAsleep,

I'm glad your telephone line is working again although there is still a fault in your area which is being investigated.

What happens when you try to use the service status page?

The estimated fix time I have for you is today (25/2) at 20:30 so if you telephone line does go off again during this time then please don't be alarmed as the engineers are working to get this fixed.

Kind regards

Rose
