Can't look at my account because the web server seems to have died.

Seems like Virgin Mediocre have finally lost the whole plot..

Rubbish products, rubbish service, rubbish ability to provide even the BASIC things...

No e-mail, no access to accounts, no access to the website either, so cannot even 'request e-mail updates' regarding whatever problem(s) there are!!

Resolving host?? what the heck is THAT about??

It has come back for me now, but it was not as simple as my original post implied.

The correct address to login to the mobile account is https://mobile.virginmedia.com/ecare/login

Unfortunately many of the links on the VM main site point to the old address https://www.virginmobile.com/vm/login.do which, when it is working, returns only a 301 "permanently moved" message pointing to the correct address. Having once received that, a browser will usually cache the result and not bother trying to connect to the virginmobile.com address. So if the server is offline you won't notice unless you clear the browser cache (or have never tried the address.) That means it will seem to work for some people but not others. I guess it may have caused some confusion.
