Re: using mobile abroad

Info about using your phone abroad is here-

http://help.virginmedia.com/system/selfservice.controller?CONFIGURATION=1003&PARTITION_ID=1&secureFl...

If you are going to the EU, you can buy an EU Travel Pass, or you might get wifi on your cruise.

Re: using mobile abroad

Hi staceym23,

Thanks for posting.

Before you go abroad you'd need to check roaming is enabled. We automatically turn this off for pay monthly customers to avoid any charges. You can now enable this via your online account with the following steps:-

Online account > Plans and devices > Manage services > Enable roaming.

The link provided by stazi is also very useful so please take a look at this regarding the charges. I'd also check with the cruise line to see if WiFi is available.

You may find the signal is not very good on a cruise. So if you need to make a call then why not try our SmartCall service. Click here for more information.

Hope this information helps. Enjoy your holiday.

Thanks

We've done this several times.  Here is a simple warning. If you use your mobile on the ship you are heading for a very large bill. The service on board is provided via satellite by a single specialised company who will charge you the earth for an exceeding slow data service and a poor voice service. If you use the ship's wifi it will not be free and it will be slow and unreliable. be sensible and use your mobile only when you are in port and can register onto a land based mobile provider. You will then benefit from EU capped rates for calls. You can use the Virgin data pass for its intended purpose as well without exhausting your credit. Most ports also have free wifi which you can use.
