pay as you go phone eating credit when not used

Can anyone advise on this. My dad has a virgin mobile pay as you go phone, he hardly uses it due to the poor signal where he lives, yet it is eating his credit. He doesn't have the internet/emails set up on it for it to be data use, will just make the odd phone call now and then and I mean the odd phone call which is a quick on and off the phone type?

Re: pay as you go phone eating credit when not used

It sounds like he's got mobile data turned on.

Even if he doesn't use data, the phone does. Some phones also use mobile data while in standby even if they are sitting next to a wifi router, because they switch off their own wifi to save battery.

If he's not using data at all, there's no need for it to be enabled. If you post the model number here, we can give instructions on how to turn off mobile data.

From Start, flick left to the Application list, press Settings Settings iconand then press Mobile.

Use the "data connection" setting to turn off mobile data
