new sim card

I have just received a new sim card (nano)  which I have inserted in my mobile. It says emergency calls only. Why? I am having such a problem with Virgin since my phone went wrong. They sent my phone back to me with no sim, and now I have a sim, it still wont work. I am in France till 5th September and I need my phone to work! I am fed up !!!!!!¬

Hi

Do you know if this SIM has been activated yet?

If not you'll need to activate it online by registering or logging into your account at virginmobile.co.uk/youraccount and select Plan and Device.

Thank you Mike, yes, I have activated the sim, at least, I followed all the details to activate it,I got so frustrated that I gave up. I shall be returning to UK in september, so will try and find a virgin shop where I can get some help. I have been trying to download Whatsapp, but no joy there either. Just thoroughly fed up with the whole thing!! Thank you for your help anyway.
