new payg sim....checking signal coverage

Hi guys....I have got a payg SIM to check signal coverage for a friend who has no signal with their provider...I have put the sim in and still have no signal...do I need to put some credit on for it to activate?. The SIM is registered onto my online account but with a zero balance....

Sorry to hear you've got no signal on the phone while you were checking this out. So we can make sure that the sim is active, please give us a call on 789 or 0345 6000 789.

Did you manage to get the sim up and running in the phone?

 

If not, the phone you're using may be locked to a network. Let me know how you got on.
