mystery data transfers

Yesterday evening my mobile started transferring data when no apps were running. I keep my roaming option turned off, so it shouldn't have been transferring data in the background either. I have no idea what it was up to. The only way I could stop it was by turning the phone off altogether. Anyone have the same experience? Or advice?

Re: mystery data transfers

Hi TC63,

you don't say what phone you have.

On my Android phone I can go to Settings > Data usage and it shows what has used data and how much.

Are you able to do this?

Re: mystery data transfers

Thanks. I have a Nokia Lumia 630 running on Windows 8.1. I can track the data use, but there are times when I am not (intentionally) doing anything, but a lot of data is being transferred. As I pay for a limited amount of data use, I like to be able to control how that amount is used. Sometimes all I can do is turn the phone off, which obviously has its disadvantages!

Re: mystery data transfers

Instead of turning the phone off, you can just turn the mobile data off :-
Swipe left to get the menu screen,
Scroll to and touch "settings",
Scroll to and touch "mobile+sim",
Touch the slider to turn mobile data off.
