microscopic scratches on charger port invalidate mobile warranty?

Yes you read that right , if you have a  mobile phone with virgin (Sony Xperia z1 compact) that fails to work due to a common battery issue they will refuse to repair it and want you to pay £120 as it has tiny scratches to the hatch that covers the charger port and apparently that has invalidated the warranty on my 16 month old phone. Worse than that I don't even believe they were there when I sent it in.

If you think Virgin are unfair, get it returned and send it direct to Sony for their view, as it's cosmetic and not a fault, the scratches that is, I agree they are wrong not to repair under gtee
