locked out

I finally gave up trying to access my mobile account ( after a year of trying - or is it a trying year) and decided to switch to 3. I requested that Virgin unlock my phone on the 27th August and despite several calls and registering a complaint it still remains locked! Virgin have tried to persuade me that I purchased the phone elsewhere but my receipt (always worth keeping) shows that to be a lie. Is this typical of the service offered by Virgin or am I unlucky?
