Why was I charged £1.96 to make one call when setting up my Sim

Why was I charged £1.96 to make one call when setting up my Sim

I purchase a SIM and £10 Top up and when activated it charged for making a test call, which went to voice mail and enquiry to 789. £1.96 is this normal if so I will not be using this again when my top up is run down

You shouldn't pay for calls to 789.

Calls to other mobiles will be chargeable, and you will pay 26p to retrieve voicemails.

What are the first three digits of the number you used for your test call? If they are 070 - that would explain why you paid so much...

Re: Why was I charged £1.96 to make one call when setting up my Sim

Is it possible once your Sim was activated the phone started to grab DATA?

You need to get this setting changed to WIFI right after initially getting phone running on new SIM (more so on new phone that's not set up).

I wiped out my 1st months Data allowance in 2 weeks due to Sim porting issues and my resetting my phone via VM CS requests (I was given credits to avoid the £1per day charge).
