Why plain text message were charged as Picture message as 40p each?

I am with Virgin Mobile on a Sim Only Monthly Contract which enable me to send unlimited text messages without any additional charge. But in my recent two bills, I have been charged 40p each for ordinary PLAIN text messages with description of Picture Message. I do have proof to show you they are just PLAIN text message.

Can someone from Virgin customer service explain why this has happened? How the problem can be solved and not happen ever again?

Many thanks!

Were they very long messages? Also have you checked phone settings to see how long a message has to be before it switches to MMS.

They are all very short. Shorter than the message you have just posted.

Were they sent to a single number? Did they have any "smiley face" image attachments?

Some sent to single number, some sent to more than two numbers. But there are all plain text without smiley faces or anything other than text.

Re: Why plain text message were charged as Picture message as 40p each?

Depending on your handset, some texts sent to multiple recipients may be sent as MMS. If a purely text message of less than 70 characters has been sent to a single recipient, it should  have been sent as SMS not MMS. This is decided by your phone, not by Virgin. If it's a Virgin phone, you might be able to get some support fot how this might have happened, but you'll probably get a more informed answer from a forum dedicated to the manufacturer or operating system of your handset.
