When will sim card activation be available again ?

Hi,

sending READY to 789678 does not work and http://www.virginmobile.co.uk/activate is re-directing to

http://www.virginmobile.com/vm/activateNewSimCard.do and returning....

The server is temporarily unable to service your request due to maintenance downtime or capacity problems. Please try again later.

Is there any idea as to when I can activate my new sim ?

Dave

Which SIM are use sending the text from? As far as I thought, you have to send the text from your existing SIM.

As for the online option, you might be able to activate via the new online site rather than the above URL - so try here https://mobile.virginmedia.com/ecare/login

Re: When will sim card activation be available again ?

Hi Dave

i have the same problem with the activate website , how long has it been down ?  You can,t contact VM they just do not answer I have waited in access of 2 hours total and no answer. If VM Have a problem how about a little honesty with customers instead a maintenance message .

Very p...ed off with VM at the moment.

Ben - you are meant to use the old SIM to send the text but that's a bit tricky when Virgin deactivated that but didn't activate the new card.  You can then go on to the website to activate but at present that's not working and in fact when I did that about 3 weeks ago it said the new card was activated although it actually wasn't!

Re: When will sim card activation be available again ?

Hi,

I used the old SIM. I'm going from a feature phone with full sized SIM to a smart phone with a micro SIM and the text message was sent from my old phone.

I first tried the website on the 31st, as far as I can tell its never come back from 'after' the system maintenance.

I'll try the new site but I've not had a website account for VM before, who knows if I'll actually be able to sign up :-)

Re: When will sim card activation be available again ?

Sorry to reply to myself again, I know its bad ettiqute.

So yesterday I bit the bullet and rang 789. The guy on the other end was very helpful. He said that SIM's sent

out before the system upgrade can't be activated on the new system and I've got another one on the way.

We also tried to sort out the 'security' question issue for my website account but I'm still waiting for the confirmation email, there's another thread detailing that.

Oh Virgin Media, the virginmobile.co.uk/activate website is still 503'ing, if your forcing everyone to activate via their web account I suggest you redirect the address, and it not you really ought to sort it out.
