When will my Samsung Core Prime G360F be upgraded from Android Kit Kat to Lollipop?

I am on a Virgin SIM only using a Samsung Core Prime G360F (unlocked). This is running Android KitKat 4.4.4.

I note that Virgin now provide this handset with Android 5 Lollipop.

I am not finding any Lollipop update for my phone OTA. Also not finding any update through Samsung Kies.

Samsung tech support are telling me it is upto the service provider to make updates available via OTA. Obviously there is a version available as Virgin are now shipping this phone with it!

Can anyone advise how I can get Android 5 onto this handset as I'm not getting any job whichever way.

Thanks

Where did you get the phone from? Even if a phone is unlocked for use on other networks, if it has network specific firmware on it, it will remain linked to the firmware approval schedule of that network.

I am using a long held Virgin SIM in a handset originally bought online from

which states   SIM Free / Unlocked

If it's a true unlocked phone, then you may find Samsung release the network variants first before releasing the unlocked firmware. They have done this in the past with other handsets

You can keep track of the firmware progress on this site http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/SM-G360F/ - the version you have will be the 'BTU' variant http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/SM-G360F/BTU/

It seems that Samsung are releasing 5.0.2 for the G360F not 5.1.1

Should have also picked up on that the version of the Core Prime Virgin Mobile are currently selling is the G361F which comes with 5.1.1 installed straight away - http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/SM-G361F/VIR/
