When/How can you change the name on a contract, if at all?

Hi,

I currently have a contract in my mothers name but I am the user of the mobile and tariff. I'm due an upgrade but I do not want to continue with the contract in my mothers name. 

Is it possible to change this as I get an upgrade and start a new contract with Virgin Mobile?
