when I go to call voicemail I am greeted with the message "this number is permantly barred" and it goes dead.
I am a new customer and was told of the importance to set this up before my original number ported over, so I did this and set PIN etc. But when calling 222 there are no options to set anything else apart from greetings. When calling my number it either just rings or gives the engaged tone without diverting the caller.
I have an iPhone and trying to access voicemail through the usual default voicemail option under 'phone' which is where I get this message.
Further to this I have managed to kind of get it working after many hours trawling through the internet, putting numerous codes etc and through a bit of trial and error.
However I am unable to see exactly what my mailbox number is, a VM mod suggests typing in *#67# but all this brings up is a list of what is set to divert with a button to 'Dismiss'. That post can be found here:
Sorry to hear you're having some trouble picking up the Voicemails.
Once you've dialed 222 to setup your Voicemail service, the Voicemail number will be programmed into the '1' key speed-dial. To access any messages in the future, just press and hold the '1' key and it will call your Voicemail service to collect any messages.
If this isn't working, you can call the Voicemail number directly by storing it in your phonebook as 'Voicemail' or something similar. Dialing *#67# should display which services are set to divert and also your Voicemail number. This number in full should be called from your handset to pick up messages.
If the Voicemail number isn't showing when you dial *#67# your Voicemail diverts are not configured correctly (this can sometimes happen after a number port). In this case just call our team on 789 and ask them to reset your voicemail diverts. This will ensure everything is correctly configured.
Fingers crossed this gets you up and running, but keep us posted on it.

I set up my iphone 5c for voicemail - then had my old number 'ported' to it. I also rang virgin mobile (789) to arrange for the voicemail to be reset for the ported number. That worked but now the the voicemail icon/button didn't function ( message: 'calls to this number are barred' )
After several calls Virgin Mobile Help desk ( philipines ) couldn't solve it and routed me to a UK 'technical specialist' who also tried a couple of codes but couldn't solve it and gave up ( he recommended I ring Apple instead - but their service centre was shut as its 'the holidays' )
So far nil points for Virgin and same for Apple - taking your money but poor service afterwards.
However I found the following code on the web and this worked (why couldn't VM Help Desk do this research ?)
Enter the following from the phone keyboard pad as if making a phone call then press dial key - not much occurs but this should fix the VM button.
NB the '222' part is simply the Virgin Mobile access number used to set up voicemail - the code will likley work also for other carriers but will probably need a different VM access number so: **5005*86*XXX#
This *5005*86*222# works in that my 1 button and voicemail button work after I programme it, but only until I reboot my iPhone at which point the problem of getting message "calls to this number are barred" when I try to access voicemail via the 1 or voicemail buttons. VM customer service have been unable to solve this problem despite several calls. Any advice?
