Using phone abroad

Recently signed up to a Virgin mobile and monthly contract. Next week we are off on a Caribbean cruise and intended using the phone for sending text only while disembarked. I would appreciate advice on how best to go about this, that is, what should the phone setting be and will my existing sim be valid?

Welcome to the community and thanks for taking the time to post.


You'll need to check whether roaming is enabled on your account. If you're on pay monthly this is automatically switched off to avoid any unwanted charges.

You can now enable this via your online account. Please click here to log in and follow these steps:-
Online account > Plan and device > Manage services > Going abroad
If it shows it's turned off then please turn it on. You'll need to wait 2-24 hours for this to be successful. You can also check costs of calls, texts and reception here.
You can also enable this by calling our team on 789 from a Virgin Mobile or 0345 6000 789 from any other phone.
