Unable to send pictures or smilies

I haven't bothered with it, but for some months I haven't been able to send pictures or smilies with texts.

I attach a picture to a text. The text arrives but not the picture. Also with smilies. They are part of the text but do not appear on the recipient's phone.

Data roaming is enabled.

Any suggestions?

Re: Unable to send pictures or smilies

Hi markc53

I would personally use WhatsApp as any picture message is charged at 40p per message.

You can get the latest settings from here

data roaming is only for abroad use Smiley Happy

Re: Unable to send pictures or smilies

Hi Lee,

Thanks for the prompt reply.

Meant mobile data, not data roaming (oops).

Whatsapp cures the picture problem but still a problem with smilies.

Re: Unable to send pictures or smilies

Hi markc53,

Lee's suggestion of WhatsApp is a great idea, it's much more versatile & free!

I very rarely send a text message these days as most of my contacts have WhatsApp. However I seem to remember when I used to text my wife who still has a Nokia "candybar" old style phone.

It wouldn't recognize some of the emoticons (smilies) that I would send from my Android phone.

A basic smiley face :-) was OK but anything more complicated on her phone would just turn out as random symbols #-¬!

It wouldn't seem to translate properly (android > Nokia). Is this the problem you are having?

AlexKid :-)

Re: Unable to send pictures or smilies

Hi Alex,

No the problem with the emoticons is that they appear in the message when I'm writing it but are not received by the recipient. Also when I refer back to the message after it has been sent the emoticons have disappeared from it.

Re: Unable to send pictures or smilies

You pay 40p for theses emoticons?

id stick to either my original post or use alexkid's idea of basic smileys : - ) etc

Re: Unable to send pictures or smilies

No, I don't pay 40p for these emoticons. They never arrive with the recipient.

Thanks for trying. Tech support couldn't solve this problem either.

No problem, I'll probably just move to another provider.

Re: Unable to send pictures or smilies

Hi Mat,

Yes more than one recipient.

Worked fine up to about Oct 2014. Then unable to send pics or emoticons. Spent ages on the phone to tech support who couldn't fix it. Vaguely remember tech support said Virgin systems had been changed but he couldn't find out why it caused the problem.

Re: Unable to send pictures or smilies

That's very odd markc53!

I'm sure we can get this fixed for you. Are you able to send a picture message to your own number to see if this comes through?

Let me know as soon as you can.

Thanks,

Mat
