Travelling to Thailand

I'm travelling to Thailand soon. Can someone tell me what I need to do to my phone to allow me to do the following:

1) ONLY call/ send a text in an emergency and for family to contact me in an emergency.
2) ONLY use the Internet when connected to hotel wifi.

I read somewhere I need to turn on "roaming" on my account for my phone to work abroad, but I thought roaming needed to be off to stop your phone automatically using data and causing a massive bill. I maybe getting confused here!!

Basically I just need my phone to work in an emergency and to use the Internet when at the hotel using their wifi.... How do I do that without accidentally racking up a huge bill?!

Many thanks

Re: Travelling to Thailand

You will need to have roaming on to receive calls and text

Most phones allow you to switch mobile data off. You will still be able to use wifi

If you say what phone you have I'm sure someone will explain how to do it.

Re: Travelling to Thailand

Thank you enlli... So if I switch roaming on, and turn off mobile data off I should still be able to make and receive calls/texts... I think I was getting the two mixed up.

i have an iPhone 6, I think I found where you switch mobile data off under settings.

thanks!
