Speed of text messages abroad

While in Spain very recently, I sent a text to a friend who lives there;  she received it immediately & replied within seconds BUT....I didn't get her reply until over 24 hours later!!

Is this normal when texting abroad?  And is this why receiving texts is free?  Smiley Very Happy

VM dont provide a network. They piggyback on EE.

Re: Speed of text messages abroad

It's not normal, I was talking to a friend in Australia on a land line and gave her my mobile number and she sent a test text and I recieved it instantly, I think the free to receive texts was an EU ruling as you have no choice to not accept the text unlike calls where you can turn off your answer phone and ignore the call

Re: Speed of text messages abroad

The silly thing is - she was only about 100 yards up the road from me!  Smiley Surprised

And because I didn't receive her texted reply, I had to incur an extra cost to call her to find out the answer to my question.

Re: Speed of text messages abroad

Hi parsloes,

Thanks for your post Smiley Happy

An SMS shouldn't be taking this long to come back to you. While you're in Spain, I'm afraid it's out of our hands. An SMS message can take up to 72 hours to be received.

Sorry I couldn't help further.

Let me know if you have any other queries.

Thanks,

Mat

Re: Speed of text messages abroad

It's happening with local texts now!  Today a friend sent two messages almost one after the other, and I didn't get them for 25 minutes!

I'll have to change providers if this carries on, I'm afraid.

Re: Speed of text messages abroad

It's happening all the time with me!  A friend just sent me a text at 7.30pm this evening & I still haven't received it.  It's now 7.50pm.  Woman Frustrated  I'm in south London & she's in north London - she's not in Tumbuktu!!

Will an admin person please come back to me on this?  It's unacceptable.  I need to receive my messages immediately.
