Sim card not working

I have received a the new iphone today and new nano sim, i have cancelled the old sim and put the new sim card in, now that one isn't working either and im wondering if its because i received a text from virgin yesterday saying that i can enjoy the new package from 23/10/15 obviously I need the phone working now thanks.

No need to panic! The sim card can take up to 24 hours to activate on our side. This should be up and running for you now. Let me know if you need anything at all.
