Sim activation

I have had a sim only contract for a while with a Blackberry and asked via chat if I could change my tariff and get a new sim for an iphone keeping my number. The sim arrived yesterday and I sent a text saying READY to 789678 and received a text to say the sim would be activated within 24 hours which was fine.

However today the sim in the blackeberry has stopped working and the new sim has not been activated. Is this normal as I now have no phone to use?
