SIM only pay monthly, need to get a new phone

Hello,

I have a SIM only pay monthly tariff and have been using an old mobile but now want to purchase a new mobile, how do I do this?

Obviously I can't 'upgrade' my phone on a SIM only tariff which I could do with a pay monthly phone contract so keeping the same tariff/number and just starting a new monthly payment for the new phone.

If I select Pay Monthly Phones on the website and go through that route it's likely to start a new tariff/new phone number as well as sending me the new phone.

Any ideas - I guess I need to somehow move from 'SIM only' to 'Pay Monthly Phone'?

Thanks

Re: SIM only pay monthly, need to get a new phone

Hi Desert-Raven,

using the link here: http://store.virginmedia.com/virgin-media-mobile/upgrading.html

I think you can. It says "Add it to your basket and tell us you’re an existing Virgin Mobile customer."

Alternatively call the Virgin mobile customer services on 789 and ask for sales.

Re: SIM only pay monthly, need to get a new phone

You are right in saying you would start a new contract, however there will be no problem in transferring your number.

Be aware that Virgin have new style contracts which split in two the price of the phone (which is a loan) and the airtime

Credit checks appear to be very strict.

Re: SIM only pay monthly, need to get a new phone

Thanks everyone for your help it's greatly appreciated.

I'm keen on the iPhone SE 16GB; Virgin (£18 * 24 = £432) but direct from Apple 'only lol' £359, is there no way to buy a new phone outright with Virgin?

Even with Virgins 0% APR it's still £73 more.

Hi Desert-Raven,

why don't you just buy your new phone from Apple and stay with your SIM only plan?

Re: SIM only pay monthly, need to get a new phone

Never heard of Virgin selling outright

You will be better off buying from Apple. Phones from them come unlocked and stay that way so you can swap sims if need be

Bought any other way it appears they may lock to the first SIM inserted.
