SIM PIN on startup

Just received my Virgin SIM and it asks for the PIN on phone startup. I know the default PIN but as this is an unnecessary intrusion on a phone that already has a PIN of my choice I don't want to have to type in two PINs.

Searching the forum and FAQs I notice the instruction to change this setting to switch off PIN request in Settings/Security. However, this is not available on all Android build or Windows Phone, or at least I can't find it. (Currently using Marshmallow 6.01 / MIUI 8.1.)

So, is there a Virgin app feature that will do it or a 3rd party app? Or can I request a SIM without the pointless lock? (The latter assuming I can ever get through to Customer Services.)

Posting phone make/model will enable some to help you more :-)

On my Android 6.0.1, it's: settings > security > set up SIM card lock, turn it off

Thanks mate, it's a Xiaomi Mi5s running on MiUI 8.1. And a thorough search of settings comes up with nothing, presumably because most operators don't lock SIMs.

Re: SIM PIN on startup

Thanks for that link teabag, you are a genius. Tucked away in a slightly different location in MiIUI8 but got me on the right track.

I'm new to Android so really appreciate the advice.

Re: SIM PIN on startup

Glad to hear you found it and got there.

Not new to Android now, I expect after all the digging about you've done looking for the answer - you've now learnt most stuff. lol

Any chance you could post where it is in MiUI 8.1?, I'm sure there will be others coming along in time looking for the answer :-)

Re: SIM PIN on startup

Sure, on MiUI8, they didn't put it anywhere you would expect, like "SIM settings" and using the settings search for "SIM" or "PIN" doesn't get you there so you can navigate as follows:

--Settings
----Additional Settings
------Privacy
--------Virgin* (or whatever you have named SIM1/2)
----------Lock SIM card (toggle off or...)
----------Change SIM PIN

*If you haven't renamed your SIM in SIM Settings it may be called T-Mobile, as mine was.

On Windows Phone it is

--Settings (then swipe left to applications list)
----Phone
------SIM Security (toggle off)
