Recvd MMS

I recently bought a Smartphone which takes 2 sim cards. On 2 occasions I have sent an mms from the the 2nd sim to my Virgin sim. Not on the internet. On both occasions I have been charged £1 to receive these pictures. As I said I was not on the internet my usage shows I have used data at the exact time I got the pictures.

I am confused because I thought MMs was free to receive

Any Thoughts

Re: Recvd MMS

Hi mikevick55,

no, you need a mobile data connection to send or receive MMS (hence the £1 charge).

I always use WhatsApp for sending pictures. It's free and works over mobile data or WiFi.

Hi mikevick55,

an MMS is free to receive but requires a data connection.

Re: Recvd MMS

Thank you for all replies. I am a bit disappointed with Virgin as I have spoke to other members of my family and no one gets charged for data usage when receiving a picture via MMs. Obviously if I get a mms from someone I will delete with out accepting it if I can

Re: Recvd MMS

Hi mikevick55

Welcome to the community and sorry to hear about the issue with the extra charge on your account. I can certainly understand the impact it's had on you. As AlexKid says, receiving a picture message is free but there are circumstances where a charge could be incurred.

It can depend on your allowances, for instance If you don't have any mobile data in your package or have otherwise run out of mobile data, you can incur the daily charge for out of allowance data usage if mobile data is active on your handset.

If mobile data was active on your handset when it received the picture message and accessed data (an active mobile data connection is required for both sending and receiving picture messages) you would see the extra charge for mobile data usage as a result.

I hope this helps clarify the situation but any questions please let me know.

Dave
