Original Nokia 3310 - will it work?

Hi folks, not VM specific this is an all networks query.

Following all the hype with the launch of the new Nokia 3310 I dug out my original model and it still powers up.  I have an old EE 3G sim card but that didn't work, of course that might be because it hasn't been topped up in a while.  Before I top up, or buy another, I have 2 questions.

  1. Will a 3G sim work in an old 2G phone?
  2. If I end up getting a 2G sim from Ebay will it work on modern networks?

1. Yes, but it might be a different physical size, so you would need an adaptor to fit the SIM in a bigger slot.

2. It might, but personally I wouldn't risk it.

Hi steelysteph,

yes SIM's are backwards compatible so a new SIM will work in an old phone.

(Three Mobile being the exception).
