It may be a network issue, have you checked your post code on the EE site for issues, Virgin use their hardware. Do you have access to a 2 no virgin mobile does that work? Does if it fits your sim work in that phone, if you have a local virgin store check there, they can't resolve it but can help to ID the issue

I am so sorry to learn about the recent issues with the signal. I can see that you have had some advice from J0hn and that it's been a few days since you last posted. I would like to know if you have been able to check and/or the service has resumed service again?
