No Coverage (Pay as you go Sim)

I purchased my son a PAYG sim and it has been great.

We went to France last weekend (and he had his global roam off).  He turbed his phone off while we were in France. When we cam back into the UK he turned his phone back on and hasn't been able to get coverage at all.  We have tried turning the phone on and off and rebooting the phone (which is an iphone 5s) but there is still no cell coverage at all.

Is there something else we need to do to get his phone working again?

Thanks in advance for any assistance / quick fix tips

Try doing a network search and selecting Virgin 

Not sure how you do that on an iPhone,but it must be there.
