New purple sim 2018 no data

I changed my contract to get a bit more data and was sent a new purple sim.
Now like many others on the forum i have no data.
I've tried manually entering the apn details as they appear in the recently posted answer. I've also tried connecting to wifi and downloading them. I've also tried the website link that sends them out. I've also tried the reset to default option.

Between each attempt i deleted the previous settings and rebooted.

One thing I've noticed is that if i search for available networks. I can see virgin 2g and 4g networks but am only ever able to select 2g. If i select 4g i get an error immediately.

Any other suggestions?

Welcome to the community and thanks for posting. I'm sorry you're not able to use mobile data following the SIM swap.

 

The correct settings you need can be found here.

 

What make and model of handset are you using?

What network mode do you currently have selected?

Have you been able to use 4G data before this new SIM?

Automatically select preferred network

Yes, even on the morning before the swap 4g was working.

Is that happening in all locations?

Do you have a screenshot of the APN's on your handset?

 

I'm concerned about why you're only able to select 2G. You won't be able to get data like this as you should have 4G(preferred)/3G/2G network mode selected.

 

Settings > More > Mobile networks > Preferred network type

All locations the same.

I'll try and attach screen shots.

If i select virgin 4g i get the following error:

"No service selected network unavailable."

Preferred network type is 4g.

Still no data.

Those APN settings look correct.

This problem of only connecting to 2g needs sorting before going further, 2g is calls and text only - NO data. Data is available on 3g or 4g only.

Seeing as you have 4g set as preferred and also tried connecting in another area. I can only think of 3 other things to try:
1: hang on for Rich_B for any more suggestions.
2: get Virgin to send a replacement SIM to try.
3: backup everything on your phone then try a factory Reset.

Having trouble contacting the 7 day a week support line on 789 as its closed.

Must have miscounted the days in my week.
