New joiner paying for unusable service

Hi,

I signed up for Virgin Mobile at the beginning of the week. Still no signs of the SIM being delivered and as it's recorded delivery, it might be late next week until I pick up the SIM from the post office.

Virgin have started charging me 3 days ago. How can they charge me for a service that I can't use? Shouldn't the first bill date be from when the SIM is first used?

Not off to a good start.
