My phone won't register to the Virgin Mobile Network

I just put my SIM in my new phone, and I have tried registering to the virgin mobile network, but every time I do, it says 'not available' or 'unable to register'. This is a problem because I can't access my messages and call anyone. Is there a simple solution to this?

Re: My phone won't register to the Virgin Mobile Network

What make/model of phone is it?
Is the phone new from a store or new to you (i.e. Second-hand)?

It's a galaxy S6, I got it from my dad, he only used it for 2-3 months

Re: My phone won't register to the Virgin Mobile Network

Did your dad use it one the same network as you wish to use (Virginmedia)? If not then it might be locked to the original network he used.
To get it unlocked you'll have to contact them to get a code - to do this you have to be a current user as either PAYG or contract, some networks will charge for unlocking.

He used the same network as me. Should I just call Virgin Media and see if they can do anything?

Re: My phone won't register to the Virgin Mobile Network

Hi Ihatemylifebleh

Welcome to the community, I'm sorry to hear about your issue with the phone not picking up any network service. Have you tried a manual network search to see if it is picking up the Virgin network? You can do this on the Galaxy S6 by following these steps:

Go into Settings

Select Mobile networks

Select Network operators

The phone will either automatically search for networks at this point or otherwise give you the option to Search networks.

Select Virgin where it comes up in the results.

Let me know how you get on.

Dave

Re: My phone won't register to the Virgin Mobile Network

Hi Ihatemylifebleh,

when did you last use your Virgin Mobile SIM?

Are you able to borrow another Virgin or unlocked mobile phone to try it in? This will establish whether the problem lies with your SIM / account or the new (to you) Galaxy S6.

Thanks AlexKid
I can't borrow another phone and my SIM was fine a week ago in my old phone.

Re: My phone won't register to the Virgin Mobile Network

Hi Ihatemylifebleh

Sorry to see this is still an issue for you.

I am assuming you no longer have access to the old phone that the SIM last worked in, is this correct?

On the back of what has already been suggested, has the phone been rebooted since inserting the SIM card?

I will follow this post up by sending you a PM so that I can take a closer look for you.

Look forward to hearing from you.

Regards
