Mobile Phone Roaming Data Not Working Abroad

I have no roaming data connection on my mobile in Cyprus.

Mobile data and data roaming are both enabled. And I'm connected fine to the local phone network for calls. I've turned on roaming on my online account and also purchased a data pass.

I've tried the SIM in a different mobile and had the same issue. Found the SIM Service status to be :- Voice: In Service / Data: Out of service.

This is a brand new SIM that has never been used in the UK, as I was already away when I bought it, not sure if this has contributed to the issue.

How do I get roaming data to start working?

Hi psblake5,

 

although you have enabled roaming, on Virgin's side of things there is a separate switch for data roaming which also needs to be on.

I think your only option may be to call them +447953 967 967.

Or try web chat from the virgin website it can be a pain to get through to

Cheers. I've tried calling this number but I get an automated message asking me to press key options of 1 - 3 (Option 2 for mobile). Unfortunately the automation does not recognise me pressing any of these keys and they promptly cuts off the call! Smiley Sad

Web chat is unavailable and asks me to try again during working hours, even though I'm already trying within working hours!

Just reread this, have you enabled data roaming on the phone?

Think it may be classed as EU for data purposed therefore you would need to purchase a travel pass.

Hi psblake5,

Welcome to the Community Forum. I'm sorry that you're unable to access your roaming service while travelling abroad.

I have reset roaming on the network for you and can confirm that this is now showing activated on both the Virgin Mobile and EE network (roaming has to activate on both systems to work and sometimes it fails to update the EE server, so causes a problem even though it is activated on the Virgin system).

Please reboot your phone (you may need to remove your battery or switch airplane mode on and off) to pick up a network. If you are still having problems, it could be the APN settings on the phone. Have a look at the following post by MichaelGr: HELP GUIDE - Mobile Data Roaming for Pay Monthly / SIMO Customers and there's information about APN at the bottom of this post.
