Just put sim into iPhone 5s and it says no service

I've just taken the sim out of my old phone and put put into an iPhone 5s and it says no service
Please help

Just want to confirm a few things if that's ok?

Is the Iphone5s from us?
if not has another network sim been in this?
Is this a replacement sim card from us or upgrade?

It's a second hand phone that I bought unlocked.
I have taken my original Virgin sim out of my old phone and put it in the 5s

Welcome to the community and thanks for posting. Sorry to hear you're getting a 'No Service' message on your iPhone 5s handset.

 

I'd very much like to get to the bottom of this for you. Could you please answer the following questions:-

 

Have you put the SIM in the right way round? (It happens more than you might think).

What handset did you previously have?

Does it ask for an unlock code?

Are you able to try another SIM in it?

 

If your SIM card worked fine in your previous handset then we can eliminate this or the signal as being the cause of the problem. It's possible your handset is still locked but if this is the case it would usually ask for a code to unlock it. Failing that, the SIM card reader of the iPhone 5s could be broken.
