Internet problems abroad

I am currently on holiday in Italy. My phone is enabled for roaming and I am able to send and receive calls and texts. However, despite having bought a travel pass I am unable to connect to anything that will let me use mobile data. I have restarted my phone multiple times, have switched off automatic carrier selection (otherwise I get no signal for calls and texts) and have tried in multiple locations so it isn't just that there is no signal where I am staying. I've even tried with my phone sat on top of the mifi in the apartment!

Hi becxabillion,

 

is data roaming enabled on your handset?

On some phones you have to turn it on in the phone's settings.

Possibly: Settings > More Networks > Mobile Networks > Data Roaming.

Yes data roaming is enabled. Or at least should be as I enabled roaming last Tuesday.

Hi Mat,

I wasn't aware of a "Data Roaming" selection in the online account.
(The OP has roaming enabled as calls and texts are possible)

I don't have Data Roaming in the "Manage your services" area of my account just "Roaming".

Where should I look for "Data Roaming"?

Yes you're correct, there's no specific option for Data Roaming on your online account. The option for that is on our own systems and may need to be manually turned on when the Customer calls.

Noted you have turned on EU Internet - I have this setting on my iPhone. I found that data didn't work if this is enabled, so disabled it and all worked fine.
