My virgin mobile is set to wi-fi but each month it goes over it 5gb data and it's costing money. Account refreshed yesterday and it's already used 1gb data from 00:28hrs to 09.26hrs (11 events) while at home on the wi-fi? Why???
something seems wrong here.
All smartphones use some data when enabled even when WIFI is available, some Apps require it.Your phones WIFI may "go to sleep" whilst your phone is in standby.
But the usage should only be very small amounts, certainly no where near 1GB overnight.
Until the reason for this can be found, I would recommend that you turn mobile data OFF on your phone whilst at home to prevent this.

Welcome to the forums
I want to get this sorted for you. Are you able to turn off Wi-Fi assist by going to settings > Mobile data and scrolling to the bottom?
This will stop the phone using Mobile Data when using Wi-Fi. Let me know how you get on with this.

Thanks for your response - it was switched on and have turned it off today.
Silly question tho - does this mean she will not have internet access on her phone unless she is at home now?
Wi-Fi assist will not prevent you from using Mobile data &colon
Your daughter will be able to browse on data and Wi-Fi.
By turning off the wi-fi assist it does seem to be using much less data. So fingers crossed no more expensive bills.
Thanks again for all the help,
No problem at all
Glad to her that this is making a difference for you.
Please keep an eye on this for me and let me know if you need anything.
