 Hi Maroe63,

unfortunately Japan is not listed in the available partner networks for "Pay As You Go" customers but if you are a Virgin Mobile "Pay Monthly" customer, then yes you can Smiley Happy

See here: Costs and Coverage > Pay Monthly and Pay by Direct Debit

Making a Call £2 (per minute)
Receiving a Call £1 (per minute)
Sending an SMS 30p
Sending an MMS 40p
Data £5 per MB

You are best advised to contact customer services (free on 789 from your mobile) before you leave the UK and ensure that "Roaming" is active on your Virgin Mobile account.

To avoid the £5 per MB data charge (unless you are happy to pay) I would ensure that mobile data and "Data Roaming" are turned off in the settings on your device as you leave the UK.

I have found WhatsApp a great way to keep in touch with friends and family (especially if you are able to use free WiFi) when abroad.
