The mobile customer services are useless!
When I dial a landline which is engaged, I get the engaged tone. When I dial a mobile which is engaged, it simply rings out, I don't get the engaged tone. Why??
Because most mobiles have call waiting, so when you are on a call and another comes in you see who it is and can switch calls if needed.
But should you not get the engaged tone?
No. Its not engaged. The call can still come though
Sorry you're having some confusion around not getting the engaged tone when dialing a mobile.
So on a mobile phone as we have many different settings, for example call waiting and the option to remove voicemail most of the time it will ring out and you won't get the engaged tone.
This means that whilst the user might be on the phone they'll also be able to see that you're trying to ring, they can then decline the call or they can put the current call on hold and answer yours.
I hope this clears things up but let me know if you have any other questions.
Thanks for your explanation Emma.
