Declined upgrade

Have just tried to upgrade my handset as my 2 year contract is now finished, never missed a payment of £32 every month in that time. The new contract is the same amount but I have been declined, any advice?

Hi Jopaul81,

 

unfortunately yours is a very common scenario on this forum.

The new agreements Virgin setup are called "freestyle" which are basically two separate agreements. One for the handset and the other for the airtime (mins, texts and data).

The handset agreement is an interest free loan or credit agreement that is taken out over the period. As the agreement is a loan agreement then a credit check would have to be ran in line with the FCA guidelines.

Unfortunately your past history with Virgin isn't the consideration as it’s your external credit file that would decide if you could pass for a loan or not.
(Even people with a good rating seem to struggle to meet Virgin's criteria).

Perhaps try one of the free online credit reports on yourself & see if it flags up any issues.

 

Alternatively, you might have to consider trying with another provider.

As @AlexKid says you may have to try another provider.

I personally know of 2 people denied by Virgin and accepted by O2. Interestingly they both got packages where the cost of the phone was in the form of a loan.
