Couple of questions about 4G.

Hello,

Is there any news on 4G? I read that it would be coming out in October.

And, will prices for rolling contracts increase as a result?

Thanks

Re: Couple of questions about 4G.

Hi viqewla,

Virgin have yet to make an official announcement regarding 4G.

Until such time any answer is speculation.

Re: Couple of questions about 4G.

No news and no prices, but if Virgin keep their fair usage at 3.5Gb it will be a waste of money having it.

Re: Couple of questions about 4G.

Who does that 3.5GB fair usage apply to?

Re: Couple of questions about 4G.

Hi viquwla,

see here: http://store.virginmedia.com/the-legal-stuff/our-service.html#12

"Excessive use over 3.5GB of data per calendar month will result in your maximum bandwidth being restricted to 3G speeds (384kbit/s downstream, 200kbit/s upstream) on our network. We reserve the right to review these usage levels from time to time. At this reduced speed, customers will still be able to browse web pages, send/receive emails, and stream audio and video all at 3G data speeds, but peer-to-peer and large file downloads/uploads will be slower than normal."

Re: Couple of questions about 4G.

This doesn't apply to the 5GB data package, does it?

Re: Couple of questions about 4G.

Hi viqewla,

yes it does. All usage of mobile data provided by Virgin Mobile above 3.5GB.

(They should make it clearer though when selling packages of 5GB and 10GB that users can't make full use of Smiley Mad )

Re: Couple of questions about 4G.

The 3.5 go limit applies to contracts after June or July 2012, if your sim only contract started before then it's only 2.5 go before throttling!
