Charges for data usage during anti social hours

I have two mobile phone accounts for my daughters.  They each have and use wifi in their homes.  Why then, are they charged for using the internet, daily, between the hours of midnight and 6am when they are not using their phones (because they are asleep) and when they are connected to their home wifi, in any event?

A number of phones switch wifi to sleep during prolonged periods of none use to preserve battery, I now mine does, but you are able to switch that function off.

Not sure what phones they have but you may find you can do the same

Thank you. They both have IPhones. I don't quite understand, though. If the phones are not being used why do their bills log KB usage during the middle of the night?

Hi faf21,

even though the phones aren't being used apps will still be running in the background.

Checking for updates, syncing emails e.t.c.

Thank you but why is the free home wifi connection not utilised instead?

Hi faf21,

it’s likely that WiFi is disabled when the phone sleeps as a battery saving measure.

My own phone is Android but I know this feature is available.

On mine it’s Settings > WiFi > Advanced settings and there you can choose to whether or not to keep WiFi on during sleep.

I dare say there is a similar option on iPhones.

I wonders some how if BlackBerry's either BlackBerry OS 10 Or BlackDroid Secure Android Smartphones Devices does the same kind of things though as they're more buisness rather than consumer focussed mainly then?
