Charged for data even though I'm logged into WIFI?

Even though I'm either logged into my flat or university wifi, I am repeatedly and randomly charged £1 (or more) for access to the internet. I have re-set and re-logged into both wifi systems repeatedly and it still occurs.

It is getting ridiculously expensive and my "data charges" have balloned my monthly bill to £27.29.

Am I being drained, or have I made a stupid mistake somewhere?

Have you switched mobile data OFF?

Adding on to what Kippies said, I would recommend turning your Mobile Data off when not using it.

When your Wi-Fi connection is weak your phone will use your mobile data if it is turned on to strengthen the signal. This to me seems like the most logical explanation as to why you are being billed more each month.

Some phones turn of wifi when they go into sleep mode to conserve battery. You can usually turn off this feature in the wifi settings
