Cannot access emails on my phone anymore

For the past ten days I have not been able to access my BT email account from my Samsung GT-S3350 phone. Cannot even get onto the BT website to long into my yahoo account. I get the message 'connection unavailable'. I did ring Virgin yesterday and they said it must be a BT issue. I have since tried to access a gmail account and have got the same message. I do not have a smartphone. I rely on my phone to check emails until I can get to my laptop. Can anyone help? Thankyou

Sorry to hear you're having difficulties accessing your email on your phone.

 

I'd like to help you out with this if I can.

 

It sounds as though this issue may be related to the internet access on your phone. You mentioned you are not able to access BT mail or even your gmail account. I'm presuming you are accessing these by browsing to the webpage as you are not using a smart phone.

 

Are you able to browse to any websites at all on the phone?

Thanks for coming back to me. Yes, I am able to access other websites without any problems. Just seems to be the email websites that have this message.

This is an odd one as other sites are working ok for you.

 

When you are trying to access these sites are you connected via WiFi or are you using the data on your phone.

 

If it is data you are using try connected to a WiFi network to see if you can replicate the fault.

Hi Stephen

 

Just tried through my wifi and it is coming up with not enough memory. Not sure if that is what is causing the issue through my virgin account also. I would normally get a message saying not enough memory on virgin if that was the case. I do when accessing certain websites on virgin and I am used to that - never had it to email accounts though.

Hi Margaret,

 

Thanks for giving WiFi ago for me.

 

It does sound more an more like the handset is having difficulties.

 

Two things I can suggest for you:

  • Try downloading another browser for example Google Chrome
  • Check the memory on the phone itself

Performing a quick Google search It appears your handset can experience RAM memory issues from time to time.

Tried to download google chrome but got 'connection unavailable'. Not sure how to check how much memory my phone has. I can access Facebook without any issues. Loads up fine. Very strange.

Been into the memory and shared memory. Showing a total of 67514kb with 34620kb free. I have cleared the cache, cookies, etc.

 

Does this make sense?

Hi Margaret,

 

Thanks for your reply. It does make senseSmiley Happy

 

The internal memory is at about half its capacity and there's not much of it to run apps. I think this issue is likely to be related to the memory on the handset.

 

As I mentioned before looking on the internet with regards to this model it does look like others using this handset have experienced similar issues.

 

Some have complained that as more apps are installed the RAM is over used causing random errors like the ones you've experienced. More and more apps these days run in the background using up vital resources on the handset which can cause it to slow down.

 

It maybe worth clearing as many apps as you can and then test the phone to see if you can access those services again.
