40p charges for Text Picture Attachments

I have been charged 40p for picture messages in cases where I either

- (i) haven't sent any text message at all or

- (ii) I have texted someone who some time before (in some instances, years before) has sent me a picture but at this stage in the conversation no pictures are attached.

I don't understand how (i) above is happening.

In relation to (ii) above it seems that the text system is remembering something about a conversation with this recipient and is charging me for all subsequent conversations as though there was a picture attached.

I've tried speaking with a Virgin adviser but that has not proved helpful.

Last month I had £7.60 of additional charges on my bill and the month before £18.

Re: 40p charges for Text Picture Attachments

This is most likely to be handset based rather than VM based.

If you use vanilla text and add a smiley, some handsets will send that as an MMS. That behavior is largely configurable.

What hand set are you using?
