Hi Fifi2

Welcome to the community Smiley Happy

I'm really sorry to hear you've not been given a precise answer to your query on calls to the '0333' number.

Let me clear things up for you...

I can confirm that calls to all numbers beginning '03' are charged exactly the same as standard landline numbers (01 and 02 numbers) as AlexKid mentioned.

This means if you have inclusive calls as part of your mobile package, you wouldn't incur any extra charges for calling this number and it would come out of the inclusive allowance.

Apologies again that you didn't get the clear response first time around, but please give us a shout if we can help out with anything else.

Many thanks

Re: 0333 charge or not?

Hi Fifi2,

03 numbers should be treated the same as 01 and 02 numbers.

If your tariff includes airtime minutes or landline minutes then this should also cover numbers beginning 03.

I have made several calls this month to numbers beginning 03 (not trebble 3) and they have been covered by my allowance.

What are Virgin charging you?

Have you called customer services on 789 (free) to question this charge?

AlexKid :-)

Re: 0333 charge or not?

Thanks for your response - I have spoken with a Virgin Mobile team member (goodness knows where) but not much help. I gave him the specific number (a UK based insurance company) but all he could say is that there are different 03 numbers and he couldn't really confirm whether it would be included in my package or not - fantastic customer service eh?

Re: 0333 charge or not?

Virgin Media tried telling me this as well so I told them ABSOLUTELY they are WRONG.  They had to cave.

Which answers everything except the question. Does telephoning an 0330 number from a Branson's Breakdowns landline phone cost 1p a minute or £1 per minute or somewhere in between?

You can see all cost for calling from your home phone at www.virginmedia.com/callcosts

Currently numbers starting 01, 02 and 03 where they're chargeable within your phone plan are 12ppm + 21p connection fee.

Re: 0333 charge or not?

Again Virgin Mobile 789 scripts have not been updated since 03 came in to service years ago by Ofcom

0345 (example of a previous fixed rate) used to be charged as per 0845 & 0870 calls (local rate only from a landline), when 03 was introduced as a national landline prefix the rules on 0800 (now free) & 08xx became service chargeable - a bigger mess and teleco revenue source than what it replaced!

Ofcom regulation:

All 03 numbers since their introduction 10 years ago have ALWAYS been charged the same as 01 and 02 numbers. This includes 0345 numbers. No number existed in the 03 range before they were created - https://www.ofcom.org.uk/about-ofcom/latest/media/media-releases/2007/ofcom-introduces-uk-wide-03-nu...

The changes to the 08 numbers was a separate more recent activity - https://www.ofcom.org.uk/consultations-and-statements/category-1/simplifying-non-geo-numbers

Re: 0333 charge or not?

@BenMcr I’m aware - I’ve tried to simplify things for customers by posting relevant info not all the dates, but as you point out Virgin mobiles EE 789 third party staff are giving info out to customers that is a decade old! Yup, maybe they should have brought customer service in-house before software and sims - being logical LOL
