"Enjoy a new TiVo box on us"?

Just received a mailshot dated June 2016 for "your free TiVo box" which refers to" an older model of our V+ Box".

I remember that I paid extra for the V+ Box as this roughly doubled the hard drive's memory. If I swap this for the new TiVo Box will I still own it or will this remain owned by Virgin Media please?

I've watched the set up video which looks straight forward but know that reality may be somewhat different. Is there any help available if I can't get it all to work please?

As a elderly pensioner I dread all updates & changes all of which can go disastrously wrong!

You do not own your V+ and you won't own your TiVo.

All equipment supplied by Virgin Media is rented.

Re: "Enjoy a new TiVo box on us"?

I paid a fee initially for my V+, installation/activation fee or something like that. It was the same for my first Tivo when I had it installed five years ago. The second Tivo I received at the end of last year, as a box swap for the V+, did not incur a charge.

But, as Ernie_C pointed out above, the box, whether a V+ or a Tivo, always remains the property of VM. The upside of this is that VM will repair/replace the boxes should they go wrong.

Nice to be able to post again, after their mistake (removed by the Censorship team).

TiVo has either 500Gb of space or 1Tb of space. Lots more than a V+

Re: "Enjoy a new TiVo box on us"?

V+ - 20 hours of HD Content or up to 80 hours of SD content

Tivo 500GB - 250 hours SD Or, 50 hours HD

Tivo 1TB (1000GB) - 500 hours SD Or, 100 hours HD

As you can see its best to just go for the larger box it does cost more to get but at least you can record more.

Virgin Media will always own the boxes so if you leave virgin they will expect you to post the box back to them.

Virgin will fix the box for free as it's their box which has its up and down sides.

Sky let you buy the box so you own it then charge you to fix it when the crappy thing breaks.

I know which one I would rather be using.

I paid extra for my V+ Box which has about twice the memory so I understand that I own it.
