Tivos dedicated route to the net

Has Tivo's own dedicated net connection been increased since Virgin Tivo came into being? Because to me if it hasn't, the 10Mb/s that it used to be 'quoted at' would certainly lead to the sort of sluggish operation and  buffering that many of us have been suffering. Or was this whole 'dedicated route to the internet' an old wives (Branson) tale?

Re: Tivos dedicated route to the net

As far as I know, the TiVo still has the dedicated 10mb connection of it's own.

I have not heard any plans to increase this.

Re: Tivos dedicated route to the net

Apps on TiVo such as iPlayer and TiVo wouldn't work if it didn't have a dedicated connection. The connection is still 10Mbit, because it doesn't need to be any faster - there is currently no app or service on TiVo that requires more than 10Mbit.

Netflix advise for HD it's around 5Mbit https://help.netflix.com/en/node/306 for the app

The BBC use less than that - 2.8Mbit http://iplayerhelp.external.bbc.co.uk/tv/hd_connectedTV_bandwidth

However there are other things that can cause streaming issues in addition to the basic speed of the connection.
