Usually any updates that need to be run are done throughout the night as this is when the least amount of people are using the service. This includes any software updates and or EPG updates.
We're sorry if this is causing your TiVo® to make a noise that wakes you up.
Switching the box off means the updates aren't run. This could lead to scheduling errors on the box, your EPG being out of date and also takes longer for your box to come on if there's been a software update as it will run once turned on.
