Hi. Recently we had our Tivo box replaced as it had stopped working. We had had the same box for years and while it was a shame we had to have it replaced as we lost recordings, Virgin were very prompt & efficient. However, the new box was very noisy with an odd ticking/whirring noise that we had never experienced before. This was loud enough to hear over the sound of a TV show so we booked another Virgin engineer visit. When the second guy came out today he said that the noise was normal, which I really don't think should be the case. Anyway, he did swap the box over for us BUT this evening the new box is making the same noise. Surely this isn't right??
When we had Tivo our box made a lot of noise. It sounded like rain on a tin roof. If it has been replaced and is still doing it it's likely the hard drive. I had a WD black hard drive that made this noise
Really sorry to hear you're having trouble with a noisy box.
What sort of noise is the TiVo® making? Ordinarily you can expect to hear a gentle, whirring noise coming from the box every now and again but it shouldn't be audible over regular viewing. Also, clunking, crunching or grinding noises are a bad sign, too!
What sort of surface does your box sit on? If it's on certain surfaces, such as glass, the vibrations from the TiVo® can make a bit of a racket.
Look forward to hearing from you!
