Tivo box and Samsung TV UE55KS8000 compatibility issues

Hi,

having recently bought a new Samsung Smart TV UE55KS8000 (4K / SUHD) I am having difficulty in getting my Tivo box to work with it.  It simply states "no signal".

The new Samsung tv's have a Connect Mini box which is connected to the tv with one cable (not HDMI).  The HDMI ports all work as I can plug my computer and also apple TV without any problem.  The only thing that does not work is the Tivo box and noone has a resolution.

The Virgin Media engineer has been around but has never seen the new Samsung Smart TV but simply stated that it is not a Virgin / Tivo issue as the box still works with my old tv (10 years old).

Has anyone had the "no signal" issue and managed to resolve it?

needing desperate help.

thanks

Antbrooke

Re: Tivo box and Samsung TV UE55KS8000 compatibility issues

It's certainly odd as there should be no reason why it doesn't work.

Is it a UK spec model you bought? If so it should support the resolutions that the TiVo box can output (576i, 576p, 720p, 1080i) at the appropriate refresh rate.

Some other things that would be good to get an answer on are:

Do you know what output formats were selected when it was connected to your old TV?
Have you tried a different HDMI cable?
Is the TV's firmware up to date?

As cybmole is also saying, it's possible that it is a problem with the TV, especially as the TiVo box works with your older TV, so is outputting a signal.

Re: Tivo box and Samsung TV UE55KS8000 compatibility issues

Hi, the TV supports HDCP 2.2.

Spoke to Samsung today and they have said it's got nothing to do with TV as the hdmi ports work with Apple TV etc.

Re: Tivo box and Samsung TV UE55KS8000 compatibility issues

Hi,
It should be a UK SPEC model as I bought it from Currys.

It was originally connected with an HDMI cable to my last tv and I have bought : tried with a few different HDMI cables. The tv's firmware is totally uptodate.

As mentioned in a recent post virgin say it's not their problem as it works on another tv. Samsung say it isn't their problem as the hdmi ports work with other devices such as my lap top and Apple TV.

Re: Tivo box and Samsung TV UE55KS8000 compatibility issues

maybe the issue is with the connect box in the moddle -

are you able to test these

does tivo -> TV ,direct o a HDMi port,  bypassing the connect box - work ?

do other devices -> connect box -> tv all work

Re: Tivo box and Samsung TV UE55KS8000 compatibility issues

maybe the issue is with the connect box in the middle -

HDCP  requires very precise timing - and maybe the extra step is throwing it off.

the narrow  timing window is there ito make it hard to add a middle device which can steal their precious content

are you able to test these

does tivo -> TV ,direct o a HDMi port,  bypassing the connect box - work ?

do other devices -> connect box -> tv all work

possibly also some clues in here - colour settings ?

Re: Tivo box and Samsung TV UE55KS8000 compatibility issues

PS - FYI,

with any PC -> HDMI -> my Samsung Tizen smart TV. I select source on TV then switch on PC...

the TV will say no signal for a few seconds as the PC boot up process begins. . part way through boot it decides that there is a signal after all , & works ok

it's a PITA but you could experiment with various different power on orders e.g. put tivo in standby, then select sourceon TV then wake tivo

or put TV on standby, wake tivo, then wake TV

I take it you have already power cycled absolutely everything - for the TV that means physically pulling out the mains cable or switching off at the wall as there is no off switch. . that cures some Samsung TV woes; the step after that being a full on factory reset via the TV menus.

Re: Tivo box and Samsung TV UE55KS8000 compatibility issues

I bought a Samsung Smart UHD in the summer it's only 48" but I plugged the Tivo straight into one of the 3 HDMI ports and it works fine, have you tried without the connect box straight into HDMI?
