TiVo Picture Settings (Video Output)

I have just bought a new Samsung 40" Full HD LED TV (1080p) however, when I go to the TiVo 'Video Output' settings, it is only showing options for :

560 (or 5 something)

720p

1080i

1080i for pass through only

Firstly, why are there no settings for 1080p and the settings only show 1080i? My new TV is full HD at 1080p but the TiVo only has 1080i - which is not the same? Selecting the 'Auto Detect' just switches it to 1080i?! Can an someone please explain why this is?

And secondly, what is the 'pass through only' option for?

Re: TiVo Picture Settings (Video Output)

the tivo outputs 1080p at 25fps most TV can only handle 24fps, it doesn't really matter as no content is in 1080p

passthrough is for netflix at 1080p at 24fps

Apologies for my naivety then (I'm not as technical as you SuperUsers!! Smiley Embarassed) but why is the 1080p option, only for 'passthru'? Why can't we select that option for normal viewing?

And I still don't get why the 'passthru' feature is only for Netflix (as dannlau pointed out above)?

Because broadcast TV is only 1080i or below and TiVo hasn't been designed to upscale that to 1080P. But if the source is 1080P which the apps support, it can 'pass thru' 1080P content to the TV intact.

So if outputs at 1080p at 25fps - why am I not seeing the 1080p option in 'Video Output' settings?

Because your TV can't do 25fps @1080p it's an american TV frame rate

So you're saying that nobody's TiVo has the option of 1080p in the Video Output settings then?

I just clicked the 'info ' button on my Samsung remote(whilst watching Top Gear on BBC2 HD) and it says it is displaying a screen size of 1920x1080 / 50i. Does this mean that it is indeed displaying in 1080p as opposed to 1080i?

Nope, it's doing 1080i @50 FPS . and some TVs can do 1080P @25fps

Re: TiVo Picture Settings (Video Output)

Your normal viewing will be 1080i/50 if you press INFO on the TV remote on all channels even non HD ones as all are upscaled, but Netflix should be 1080p/24 if you are able to set the 1080p pass-through.

VM do not broadcast in 1080p, though I heard one of the BBC channels may have been testing it as same as for anyone watching TV in UK by any method AFAIK.

I have never seen 1080p/25 on the Tivo its, 1080p/24 on my mothers 2 LG 1080p TV's (2013 mid range models) while Netflix is playing and 1080i/50 all other times.

I have tested the TV's using media on a thumbdrive and they can play 1080p/24/50/60 no problem but I have no 1080p/25 media and TBH not seen any.

...I see what you're saying, however, before the recent 'Plumdate', there were indeed settings to choose 1080p, in the Video Output settings (I was watching a video on YouTube where the guy was showing the options on his VM TiVo - he showed it had a 1080p option) - is this the reason this has been removed in the 'Plumdate'?!

I do also have the 1080i Passthrough selection ticked.

1080P hasn't been removed, it's still the bottom option in the list of resolutions. So you get:

576i

576p

720p

1080i

------------

1080p (pass-thru only)
