my goodness just seen details of sky new proposed q box, it looks fantastic, if virgin don't bring out something as good I will be gone as I love what it can do, the specifications make TiVo look like something out of the science museum. Micky

Re: Sky q box

What!!! No automatic re-scheduling and only 4 concurrent recording.

There are many days at 9pm with more than 4 programs needing concurrently scheduled.

This is possibly TiVo's best function.

Re: Sky q box

I believe it was suggested that it would be rather more than even their current HD offerings.

Plus from what I can recall, the plethora of tuners in the box is only there to provide support for the other devices in the house, not to permit recording 12 things at once.

Re: Sky q box

Read spec, records 4 programmes while you can watch 5th live channel at same time, it doesn't claim to record 12 programmes.

Re: Sky q box

True, they haven't got an HDD which would handle that yet, though I seem to recall TiVo's tuner management logic is scalable, so putting 6 recordable tuners in a TiVo isn't exactly far fetched.

Re: Sky q box

As a PVR the Sky Q box doesn't seem to offer much over the TiVo (just the extra tuners), most of the additional functionality just seems to be related to viewing on tablets etc. which isn't of any interest to me.

However it is missing some features that the TiVo has; wish-lists, suggestions, automatic rescheduling and possibly ever-lasting series links (I believe Sky have got a partial version of this, but it only works on certain programs not on everything).

Re: Sky q box

You are absolutely right all the tv companies put their best programmes out between 7.30pm & 10.30pm. So have a multi recording function is great. Micky
